JSW Greentech held a media roundtable on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, where Chief Executive Officer Sumit Mittal spoke about battery cooling practices in India and the company's work on chassis durability.
How Indian Commercial EV Packs Are Cooled Today
Mittal said that in India, most electric commercial vehicle makers use LFP batteries, and the majority of them depend on a single cooling plate fixed at the bottom of the battery module.
He used a simple comparison to explain the limitation of this setup. Picture a mobile phone resting on a table, with cooling applied only under the table. One side of the cell gets cooled, while the other side receives the cooling much later.
Frame Protection Through PTED
The company is also focusing on how long a truck frame lasts under tough Indian road conditions and heavy overloading.
In conventional commercial vehicles, chassis carry spray-painted primers. This leaves welded joints open to oxidation over time.
JSW's approach works differently. Once the frame is welded, it goes through a Pre-Treatment Electro-Deposition, or PTED, process. This lays down a uniform electro-plated layer of 0.4 mm across the whole assembly.
According to the company, this coating seals the high-energy weld areas against moisture. The result is protection against structural rust, and it also removes the frame noise that is common in older fleet vehicles.
Why This Matters for Fleet Owners
Chassis rust and frame noise are familiar headaches for fleet operators running older trucks. A plated layer that covers welded joints could extend frame life and cut maintenance trouble over years of duty.
Similarly, cooling design plays a big role in how batteries hold up in Indian heat and under heavy loads. How manufacturers manage cell temperatures affects running costs for operators.
