Musashi Auto Parts India and Bhago Mobility Solutions have signed a Letter of Intent covering electric powertrain supply for the Bhim, Bhago's upcoming electric three-wheeler. Manufacturing of the drive systems is set to start in 2027 at Musashi's Bengaluru plant.
What the Deal Covers
The agreement is for Musashi's integrated three-wheeler e-Axle. This is a single packaged unit that combines the main drivetrain components, instead of each part being sourced and fitted separately.
At present, the arrangement applies only to the fixed-battery passenger version of the Bhim. Bhago is separately developing a model with swappable batteries, but that variant is not part of this deal. Both companies have suggested the tie-up could grow later, possibly taking in cargo versions and swappable-battery setups.
A Vehicle Designed Around Connectivity
Bhago is building the Bhim with connectivity at its core, not as an extra feature bolted on later. The onboard telematics will support remote diagnostics, service scheduling and over-the-air software updates.
The company is aiming the vehicle at individual driver-owners as well as fleet buyers in passenger and last-mile segments. For commercial operators, vehicle health data and predictive maintenance can improve uptime and keep running costs in check, especially when vehicles are used for long hours daily.
Why the Timing Matters
Electric three-wheelers have moved well beyond the trial stage in India. Numbers cited by the two firms show EVs took over 60% of three-wheeler retail sales in 2025. By August 2026, that share had risen to 65.3% of the retail market.
With demand at this level, suppliers are competing for full production contracts rather than small pilot schemes. For Musashi, the deal also widens its EV powertrain work beyond two-wheelers. It already sells locally made e-Axle technology for two- and three-wheeler use in India and has run powertrain supply programmes with other Indian manufacturers.
What Happens Next
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at the Bengaluru facility. The focus now will be on whether the partnership expands to cover the battery-swapping Bhim and cargo variants of the platform.
