India's electric passenger vehicle market reached a reported monthly high of **35,995 registrations in September 2026**. Tata Motors, VinFast, Kia, Toyota and Tesla each recorded their strongest month, while Kia climbed ahead of Maruti Suzuki in the manufacturer rankings.

## Tata leads the record-setting brands

Tata recorded **14,769 units**, retaining first place with approximately **41% market share**. Its September tally surpassed its previous monthly best of 14,388 units in July.

VinFast finished fourth with **2,963 units**. Kia registered **1,263 units**, taking fifth position ahead of Maruti Suzuki's 1,103.

Toyota reached **218 units**, compared with 168 in August. Tesla recorded **291 units**, placing it ahead of Mercedes-Benz's 125 in the luxury EV segment. BMW remained the luxury leader with 502.

Mahindra retained second place and JSW MG Motor remained third. Tata and Mahindra together accounted for roughly 63% of the reported total.

## Four consecutive months above 30,000

September extended the market's run of monthly registrations above 30,000 to four months. The report puts April-September FY2027 volume at **1,90,946 units**, up approximately 88% year on year.

Against September 2025's 18,520 units, the September 2026 total calculates to **approximately 94% growth**.
