RIDEV has opened its 16th hub in Chennai as its fleet passes 12,000 electric two-wheelers, according to an October 9 report by Autocar Professional. The expansion adds to the company's network supporting delivery partners and gig workers who need a vehicle for daily income.

The announcement highlights two parts of commercial EV adoption: putting vehicles on the road and building the support network that keeps them working. For riders, access to batteries, repairs and a replacement vehicle can be as consequential as the scooter itself.

## Chennai launch marks another network milestone

The new location extends RIDEV's hub-based rental operations. Autocar Professional reports that the platform was founded in April 2024 with an initial fleet of 10 electric two-wheelers.

Manish Kumar Jain, RIDEV's founder and CEO, frames the service around access to a vehicle that enables earnings. BGauss founder and managing director Hemant Kabra attended the Chennai launch as chief guest. The company also planned to showcase its 12,000th electric two-wheeler at the event.

RIDEV says it intends to expand its fleet and hubs across key markets while strengthening its technology and operational infrastructure.

## What the rental package includes

According to the launch report, RIDEV bundles the following support into its rental offering without additional charges for those services:

- Battery swapping
- Servicing and maintenance
- Roadside assistance
- Insurance
- Standby electric vehicle support

Its in-house technology supports fleet deployment, hub management and rider operations.

On its own website, RIDEV advertises weekly rentals starting at INR 1,400. This is a starting rate rather than a confirmed price for every vehicle at the newly opened Chennai hub. Riders should check the current local offer before booking.

The website says onboarding involves paying the first week's rent and a refundable deposit. Although RIDEV advertises no vehicle down payment, that does not mean there is no initial payment.

## How the model differs from buying a scooter

A rental subscription changes the timing and responsibility of vehicle spending. A buyer pays for an asset, either upfront or through finance, and takes responsibility for its use over time. A renter pays for access under the subscription's terms.

At the advertised starting rate, four weeks of rent would cost INR 5,600. For budgeting, 52 weeks at INR 1,400 would total INR 72,800, equivalent to roughly INR 6,067 per calendar month averaged across a year. These are illustrative calculations, assuming an unchanged rate and continuous rental; they exclude the refundable deposit.

That distinction matters because a calendar month is longer than four weeks on average. Comparing four weeks of rent directly with a monthly loan instalment can understate the rental budget.

Neither arrangement is automatically cheaper. The useful comparison is the rider's total cost over the expected working period, including energy, maintenance, insurance, financing where applicable and time lost to repairs.

## Why nearby hubs matter for delivery riders

**BestEV analysis:** A larger fleet can serve more riders, but dependable access to support determines how useful those vehicles are during a working shift.

If a rider must travel far to swap a battery or arrange repairs, that journey consumes time that could otherwise be spent completing deliveries. A nearby hub could reduce that burden, provided charged batteries, technicians and replacement vehicles are available when needed.

Bundling support may also make expenses easier to plan. It does not establish a guaranteed increase in take-home earnings: delivery demand, rental charges, working hours and vehicle availability all affect the outcome.

## What riders should check before subscribing

Before committing, riders should confirm the exact Chennai hub address, operating hours, available models and current weekly rental. They should also ask about deposit refunds, insurance excesses, damage liability, cancellation terms and the process for obtaining a standby vehicle.

Those details determine how the advertised package works in practice, particularly during a breakdown or a busy delivery period.

## What the expansion means for commercial EV adoption

RIDEV's Chennai opening illustrates an approach that combines vehicle access with ongoing operational support. The next measure of success is how consistently that network keeps riders working as the fleet grows.

For delivery partners, the practical value will depend on affordable rental terms, convenient hubs and reliable service throughout the subscription.
