Renault has launched the **Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 in India**, bringing a petrol-electric option to its midsize SUV range. The introductory starting price is **INR 16.99 lakh ex-showroom**, and customer deliveries are scheduled to begin on **November 6, 2026**.

For buyers considering an electrified SUV, the key distinction is how it gets its energy: the Duster hybrid still uses petrol, while its electric motors and compact battery help reduce fuel consumption. Owners do not need to connect it to a charger.

## E-Tech 160: engine, battery and claimed mileage

Renault's official product information lists a **1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery**, producing a combined **160 PS**. The company quotes **29 km/l fuel efficiency** and a combined driving range exceeding **1,400 km**.

Those are manufacturer figures rather than a BestEV road-test result. Actual consumption and distance between refuelling stops will vary with speed, traffic, load and driving style. The quoted total range includes petrol use; it is not an electric-only range.

Renault also says electric-mode operation can account for up to 80% of city driving under specified conditions. This should not be interpreted as a promise that every urban journey will use that proportion of electric power.

## How does the self-charging hybrid work?

The battery recovers energy during braking and also receives energy through the petrol-powered hybrid system. The drivetrain manages petrol and electric operation automatically.

In practical terms, the owner continues to refuel at a petrol station. There is no home charger to install, but there is also no option to replenish the battery from a plug using household electricity.

For an apartment resident without dependable charging access, that operating routine may be easier to accommodate. Someone with reliable home charging should compare the hybrid with a battery-electric SUV using their own annual distance, electricity tariff and petrol costs.

## Equipment and battery warranty

The launch report lists dual-zone climate control and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen on Evolution. Techno adds a panoramic sunroof, while Emotion brings ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate, among other upgrades.

Hybrid-battery cover is reported at **eight years or 1,60,000 km**, subject to warranty conditions. Confirm the detailed equipment list and coverage exclusions before booking.

## What should buyers compare?

The Duster joins a strong-hybrid field that includes the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. A useful comparison should include the on-road purchase price, equipment, local service support and real-world fuel economy.

The hybrid premium is an upfront cost. Whether fuel savings recover it depends on how far the vehicle travels and the consumption achieved in that owner's usage.
