Ola Electric's **INR 999.74 crore rights issue** opened on October 22 and will close on October 30, giving existing shareholders a chance to buy new shares at INR 27 each -- paid in two parts.

The issue is the company's second major fundraise this year, following a INR 780.24 crore qualified institutional placement in June. For a company that has spent the past two years fighting service complaints and losses, the money matters. So does the fact that two large investors have already committed on day one.

## The terms

| Detail | Terms |
|---|---|
| Issue size | INR 999.74 crore |
| Shares on offer | Up to 37.03 crore partly paid-up shares |
| Price per share | INR 27 |
| Payable on application | INR 16.20 |
| Payable on later call | INR 10.80 |
| Opens | October 22, 2026 |
| Closes | October 30, 2026 |

The shares are **partly paid**. Investors pay INR 16.20 now and the remaining INR 10.80 when the company makes a call. That structure lets Ola collect cash immediately without requiring the full amount upfront from shareholders.

## Who has already applied

Two investors applied for a combined **2.39 crore shares** before 11:00 IST on the opening day:

- **Motilal Oswal Financial Services:** 1.28 crore shares, against rights entitlements renounced by ANI Technologies, the entity that operates Ola Cabs.
- **Calliope Capital Advisors:** 1.10 crore shares, against entitlements transferred by Indus Trust. Calliope is an investment vehicle owned by Navin Agarwal, group managing director of Motilal Oswal.

Both applications cover the full entitlements transferred to them. Founder and CMD Bhavish Aggarwal has committed to subscribing to his full entitlement, and promoter group members have committed to subscribing or transferring within permitted categories.

Earlier this month, Aggarwal pledged a **4.32% stake** in Ola Electric to fund his participation in the rights issue.

## Where the money goes

Ola has earmarked the proceeds:

- **INR 350 crore** towards repaying or prepaying borrowings, including accrued interest and prepayment penalties.
- **INR 400 crore** towards organic growth.
- The remainder for general corporate purposes.

The debt repayment is the most consequential line. It reduces interest costs and gives the company more room to absorb a slow recovery in sales. The growth spending is likely to flow into battery cell manufacturing and battery energy storage systems, two areas where Ola has been investing heavily.

As of September 20, 2026, **INR 139.21 crore** of IPO proceeds allocated to debt repayment, organic growth and general corporate purposes remained unutilised. Another **INR 190.77 crore** from the June QIP was also unutilised across the same objects, according to the letter of offer.

## Why the company needs the cash

The numbers explain the urgency.

In Q1 FY27, Ola's consolidated net loss narrowed 22% year-on-year to **INR 336 crore**, but operating revenue fell 45% year-on-year to **INR 455 crore**. Sequentially, revenue rose 72% from INR 265 crore, and the loss narrowed from INR 500 crore -- a sign that the worst of the demand collapse may be behind it, though the base is much smaller than it once was.

The stock closed at **INR 31.94** on the BSE on October 22, down 3.21% for the day.

A rights issue is also a signal. Companies raise equity when they believe the balance sheet needs strengthening and when existing investors are willing to back the story. Motilal Oswal and Calliope putting in money on day one is a stronger endorsement than a promoter-only subscription would have been.

## What it means for Ola owners

**Your scooter's warranty is unaffected.** A rights issue changes the shareholding pattern and the balance sheet, not the warranty terms on vehicles already sold.

**Service and software support should benefit.** The growth spending and debt reduction are aimed at keeping the business running through its turnaround. For owners, the practical test remains the same: how quickly the nearest service centre can fix a problem.

**Resale sentiment may improve -- slowly.** Financial stress at an automaker weighs on used values. A funded balance sheet removes the most acute risk, but resale prices will recover only when buyers see consistent service and product updates.

**Dilution is real for shareholders who do not participate.** If you hold Ola Electric shares and let the rights lapse, your stake in the company falls. That is separate from the scooter ownership experience.

## For scooter buyers, the price is not INR 27

The INR 27 figure is the price of a partly paid **share**, not a scooter. Anyone reading the headline as a vehicle price should ignore it.

Ola's scooter range still starts with the S1 X and runs up to the S1 Pro. If you are shopping in that market, compare battery sizes, real-world range and, most importantly, the service network in your city. Our [electric scooters](/electric-scooters) section lists the alternatives, and the [Ola S1 Pro](/vehicles/ola-s1-pro-gen-2) page has the specifications.

The rights issue does not change what the scooter is. It changes whether the company behind it has more time to fix what surrounds it.
