MG Hector Tomahawk EV Review
BestEV Rating: 8.2/10
Performance 7.8/10 | Range 8.0/10 | Features 9.1/10 | Value 8.7/10 | Charging 7.3/10
Editorial note: This BestEV review is based on MG Motor India's official specifications and multiple independent first-drive reports. BestEV has not yet conducted its own instrumented road test.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is a large family-focused electric SUV available with five- and seven-seat layouts. It uses a 69.2 kWh LFP MAGIC Battery and a front-mounted motor producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm. MG claims a certified 517 km range and 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.
Design and road presence
At 4,745 mm long with a 2,810 mm wheelbase, the Tomahawk is a substantial SUV. Its upright proportions, illuminated MG badge, LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels give it strong road presence without making it look excessively futuristic.
Interior and practicality
Space is one of the Tomahawk's biggest strengths. The five-seater has a 610-litre boot, while the seven-seater offers 192 litres with all rows up and 528 litres with the third row folded.
Higher variants add a 15.6-inch central display, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, panoramic roof, Infinity audio and 256-colour ambient lighting. Independent first drives broadly agree that passenger space and cabin comfort are key strengths, although the third row is better treated as occasional adult seating.
Performance and range
Performance is tuned for smooth family use rather than outright speed. Early road tests describe easy acceleration, light steering and noticeable body movement.
MG's official range is 517 km. Early independent drives suggest roughly 360-400 km may be a reasonable real-world expectation depending on speed, traffic, terrain and climate-control use. This is not a BestEV-tested range figure.
Charging
The standard 7.4 kW AC home charger takes about 12.5 hours for 10-100%. DC charging peaks at 90 kW, with MG claiming 30-80% in about 35 minutes. The Tomahawk also supports V2L and V2H.
Comfort and handling
Early reviewers differ somewhat on suspension tuning: some found the ride plush, while others reported a firmer or slightly jiggly low-speed ride. There is broader agreement that the Tomahawk prioritises comfort and ease of driving over sporty handling.
Safety and technology
Safety equipment includes six airbags, stability control, TPMS and four-wheel disc brakes. Higher variants add a 360-degree camera, while the top Essence trim receives Level 2 ADAS. An official NCAP rating has not yet been published.
Price and value
Battery-inclusive ex-showroom prices are:
- Excite 7S: ₹19,49,800
- Exclusive 7S: ₹21,99,800
- Essence 5S: ₹22,99,800
- Essence 7S: ₹23,49,800
BaaS pricing starts at ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90/km battery rental.
That pricing gives the Tomahawk a strong value proposition: buyers get a large electric SUV, substantial battery, 5/7-seat flexibility and a long equipment list at prices that overlap with smaller EVs.
BestEV Verdict
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV doesn't try to be the quickest or sportiest electric SUV. Its strengths are space, refinement, family practicality, equipment and aggressive pricing.
The main compromises are the 90 kW maximum DC charging rate, occasional-use third row, touchscreen-heavy interface and comfort-focused dynamics.
For buyers looking for a large family EV rather than a performance EV, the Hector Tomahawk presents a compelling package.
