Mahindra & Mahindra could sell another 2,000-3,000 electric vehicles a month if supply constraints ease, according to company executive Velusamy R in comments reported by PTI.

The remarks were published on October 15 and covered by ETAuto on October 16. They point to demand running ahead of available supply for the company's electric SUVs.

## Demand versus production capacity

Velusamy said Mahindra had been retailing more than 8,000 EVs a month in recent months, while demand had risen to about 10,000-11,000 units.

Monthly electric SUV production capacity stood at around 8,000 at the end of March and is being increased towards 12,000 by the end of FY27, according to the report.

That target is a planned capacity level. It is not a statement that Mahindra is already producing or selling 12,000 EVs every month.

## Why customers are considering electric SUVs

The executive cited higher petrol and diesel prices, improving charging infrastructure and longer driving ranges as factors supporting interest.

BestEV's assessment is that these factors work together. A vehicle may offer an attractive running cost, but a household still needs confidence that it can charge conveniently and complete its normal journeys.

## What the statement means for waiting periods

Strong aggregate demand can put pressure on delivery schedules. However, the report does not establish a single waiting period across Mahindra's EV range.

Delivery times can differ by model, variant, colour, location and dealer allocation. A buyer should request a written estimate for the specific vehicle being booked and check how cancellation or allocation changes are handled.

## Capacity growth is only one part of delivery

Increasing a factory's rated capacity does not automatically translate into an identical rise in retail sales. Component supply, production scheduling, logistics and the mix of variants customers want also influence deliveries.

For manufacturers, the opportunity is to convert customer interest into timely deliveries while supporting the vehicles already on the road.

## BestEV view

Mahindra's comments are a useful demand signal, but they should be read as management's assessment rather than an independently measured order book.

The next indicators to watch are actual monthly retail performance, progress towards the FY27 capacity target and whether buyers see more predictable delivery dates.
