India's growing electric-vehicle demand is putting fresh pressure on factories and component suppliers, according to a Financial Express report published on October 17, 2026. For buyers, the immediate issue is whether the desired model can be delivered within the promised window.

## Tata EV production rises, but supply remains tight

The report says Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has increased monthly EV production capacity to more than 16,000 units, compared with approximately 7,500-8,000 a year earlier. Quarterly EV wholesales exceeded 47,000 units.

Tata is working with suppliers to support festive deliveries. The report identifies component availability as a constraint even as factory capacity increases.

## Ather prepares for a larger manufacturing footprint

Ather plans to increase annual production capacity from 4.2 lakh to 9.2 lakh units through its AURIC facility in Maharashtra. Waiting periods have reached two months or more in some states, according to the report.

Those waits are location-specific observations. They should not be applied to every Ather model, variant or dealership.

## Why a bigger factory does not guarantee faster delivery

BestEV's assessment is that delivery performance depends on the entire production chain. A factory needs compatible parts, trained staff and transport capacity before an additional assembly slot becomes a customer delivery.

Capacity is also different from output: a plant's rated capability does not establish how many vehicles it produced during a particular month. Wholesales measure dispatches rather than completed customer registrations.

## What buyers should check before booking

Ask the dealer for a written delivery estimate tied to the exact variant, colour and city. Establish whether the quoted vehicle is in stock or awaiting allocation, and check the booking cancellation terms.

If a purchase depends on an exchange offer or a finance quotation, confirm how long those terms remain valid. Arrange home charging in line with a realistic delivery date.

## What comes next

The useful indicators will be actual deliveries, local waiting periods and supplier readiness. Announcing more capacity is a positive signal, but dependable delivery dates will show whether the expansion is reaching customers.
