Delhi received **5,678 applications for electric-vehicle incentives** between July 1 and September 21, 2026, the first 83 days of the Delhi EV Policy 2026.

By September 21, the government had released approximately **INR 4.8 crore to 1,664 beneficiaries**. The remaining **4,014 applications** were still under verification or processing, meaning around 70% of claims had not yet resulted in a payout.

## Electric two-wheelers dominate applications

Of the 5,678 applications, **5,621 were for electric two-wheelers**. Among the 1,664 beneficiaries paid, 1,648 were electric two-wheeler buyers.

This concentration shows that scooters and motorcycles are driving the early consumer response to Delhi's new policy. Lower purchase prices and frequent daily use make two-wheelers especially sensitive to incentives and running-cost savings.

## Scrappage incentives show limited uptake

Only **41 buyers** had received scrappage-linked incentives:

- 16 electric four-wheeler buyers received a combined INR 16 lakh
- 25 electric two-wheeler buyers received a combined INR 2.5 lakh

The low number suggests that either eligibility, awareness or the scrapping process is limiting participation. The policy provides separate scrappage incentives for eligible older vehicles when replaced with a new EV.

## How applicants can reduce delays

Eligible buyers should ensure that registration details, Aadhaar authentication, bank information and supporting documents match exactly. Applications that require correction or manual verification can take longer.

Buyers should retain:

- Vehicle invoice and registration certificate
- Aadhaar-linked bank details
- Application acknowledgement
- Scrapping certificate, when claiming that benefit
- Dealer and portal correspondence

Applicants should use the official portal to check status and avoid intermediaries promising faster approval.

## Why the backlog matters

Incentives influence the effective purchase price, particularly for entry-level electric scooters. Long delays can create cash-flow problems for buyers who expected the subsidy shortly after registration.

The policy process needs both fraud prevention and predictable payment timelines. Publishing regular figures for applications received, rejected, approved and paid would make performance easier to evaluate.

## Next milestone

Delhi's larger policy direction includes a planned shift toward only new electric two-wheeler registrations from April 1, 2028. Achieving that goal will require more than incentives: charging access, reliable products, service capacity and confidence in the subsidy process will all matter.

The initial application volume is encouraging, but clearing the 4,014-case backlog is the immediate execution test.
