Carens Clavis EV: What Kia's Electric MPV Offers Buyers

The Carens Clavis EV offers two battery packs with claimed ranges of 404km and 490km, six- and seven-seat layouts, and pricing from Rs 18.04 lakh. Kia's Battery-as-a-Service and K-Charge network support owners further.

Carens Clavis EV: What Kia's Electric MPV Offers Buyers

Kia's electric people mover, the Carens Clavis EV, has been drawing attention in India's growing EV space. Here is a plain look at what the car brings to the table.

Battery And Range Choices

Buyers get two battery options. The smaller 42kWh pack works with a 135bhp motor and delivers a claimed range of 404km. The larger 51.4kWh pack pairs with a 171bhp motor and is rated at 490km. In both versions, the motor sits up front and puts out 255Nm of torque.

Seating And Features

The MPV comes in six- and seven-seat layouts, so families have flexibility. Inside, there are two 12.3-inch screens, one for infotainment and one for the instrument cluster. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and DC fast charging support of up to 100kW.

Prices start at Rs 18.04 lakh, average ex-showroom.

Support Beyond The Car

Kia also runs a Battery-as-a-Service programme. Under this scheme, the cost of the battery is separated from the price of the vehicle, which lowers the amount buyers pay upfront.

On the charging front, the company's K-Charge platform brings together more than 20,000 charging points from over 20 operators in a single app. That should make trip planning simpler for owners.

Why It Matters

Range anxiety and upfront cost remain the two big hurdles for Indian families considering an electric MPV. The Clavis EV addresses both with its twin battery choices and the option to split the battery cost at purchase. A wide charging network adds further comfort for longer trips.

With rivals watching the people-mover segment closely, the Clavis EV's mix of range, seating options and ownership support could shape how other carmakers price and equip their own electric MPVs.
